“Ahakoa he iti, he pounamu”

– However small something may appear, it is a treasure.

Hello all! My name is Blair Hindmarsh and I am currently studying at Toihokura: School of Māori Visual Arts and is my second year. My study consists of the Māori language, painting, drawing, the culture of New Zealand and its history. My main focus for this year is based on the whakataukī  (Māori proverb) used above to acknowledge all characters in traditional Māori narratives. . So, I have created artworks dedicated to everything maori because a lot of the stories go largely  unnoticed by the general public.

I’m hoping to create an image that makes the viewer feel as if they were traped in the composition of artwork, almost hypnotised by its beaty by visually delving into the stories, playing with colour, texture and experimenting with all mediums in my grasp im hoping to make this dream a reality.

Hope you guys enjoy my Blog!

– Blair
